In addition to historical features, unique natural beauties stand out as an important element in the formation of Istanbul's fascinating ambiance and beauty. The fact that it separates two continents from each other and is a very important place in the international sense makes the Bosphorus an important element. Experiences, historical buildings and landscapes in the deep blue waters of the Bosphorus have been instrumental in transforming Istanbul into a completely different state.
Features of the Bosphorus
Bosphorus, which is considered to be one of the most difficult passages in the world with its indented feature and has a length of approximately 31 km, is located in the IV. It was formed when the valley land, which collapsed 7 thousand years ago in geological time, was replaced by the dominance of sea waters.
The average depth of the strait, whose lowest point is in the range of 100-120 meters, is approximately 60 meters. Although its width varies due to its structure, its widest area is 3500 meters, while its narrowest area, corresponding to the Rumelihisarı region, is around 760 meters.
The Bosphorus is known as "The Bosphorus" in the world. Let's take you for the story that gave this name to this word, which means "Ox Passage";
Zeus, who became the god of the gods by equaling the Titans one by one, is known for his desire for women despite his marriage to Hera. Zeus cannot satisfy his desire for women, despite the cruelty of his wife, Hera. From Hera's side, Hera, who is aware of this indispensable habit of her husband, becomes extremely jealous of him and sometimes tries to take revenge on Zeus with violent methods.
One day, Zeus falls in love with Io, the daughter of the river god Inakhos. Suspicious of this situation, Hera tries to learn the secret works of Zeus. Noticing this effort of Hera, Zeus covers the sky with clouds in order not to betray himself. In return, Hera disperses the clouds by blowing them.
Zeus had no other way to hide. Zeus suddenly turns Io into an ox. Hera, on the other hand, did not swallow this trick. Even if there is an ox standing in front of her, Hera is not convinced and throws as many flies, insects and vermin as there are on Io.
Io, now incarnated in the body of an ox, is so disturbed by this that he starts running with his own teeth. This run, which continues with a life towel, starts from the Aegean and ends in the Black Sea. Io runs so desperately that the land splits into two parts and the road he runs is flooded. Thus, the Ox Pass, as we know it, is formed as Bosphorus.
